2002 C240

Wifey needs a back up cam, looking into if this radio can be a great fit.

Two questions...

1-are wire connections straight up or do they require an adapter of some sort?

2-physically is it a straight fit and/or does it need an install kit?

You can install any double-DIN unit in the C240, but it will require an adapter faceplate, mainly to fill int he gaps between it and the wood trim panel. As long as you don't have the Bose system, you can buy an adapter wiring harness that is 80% plug and play. The other 20% is the fact that the car has no illumination or switched 12v lines in its wiring so you hacve to pick those up from the cigarette lighter. If you do have Bose, then there is no speaker wiring in the dash - it's fiber optic to the trunk where the Bose amp is located. In that case, you have to run your own copper speaker wir to the turnk and tie into the speaker wiring there after disconnecting it from the Bose amp.

Thanx Rudeney. It's not a bose, just the regular radio with a hidden tape player. It's a 2002 model.

Does this radio require factory code or password, etc if you mess with it? i.e. if I pull it out and for some reason I have to re-install it, if the other one doesn't work out, etc?

Is this AZ the type of harness that goes with it, fitment includes MBZ?

No codes, no coding. That looks like the wiring harness. I put a Pioneer AVIC in my C240 many years ago and used a harness like that. I just bought a whole kit that came with the mounting adapter/faceplate, plus the harness. I tied into the ashtray for switched 12v and illumination. However, if you decide to buy an interface for the steering wheel controls, those often give you the switched power and illumination signals, as well as a reverse signal.

When you say reverse signal you are talking about back up cam, right?
Cause I came across this, looks like a complete unit and has A/V ends I assume are back up cam connections.

Yes, the signal from the car when the transmission is in reverse to the head unit knows to activate the backup camera.

I really thank you guys for being great sports with your help on this.
Head unit should be here shortly, and I will proceed with this install.
