Rain sensor lens has air pocket

2003 C230. My rain sensor lens has an air pocket it in. This is causing the wipers not to wip consistently or not at all. I realize the rain sensor lens is a part of the windshield, but I am not about to replace it.

Has any one had this issue and fixed it? What did you do?

You might find a glass shop that can repair it be removing the lens (which will break it), cleaning the adhesive from the glass, then gluing a new lens in place. However, this rarely works. Sit-installed lenses usually end up with bubbles and cause poor sensor performance. The best bet is to replace the glass with one that has the lens installed at the factory.

Easy to remove the lens without any damage. Use a heat gun on low on the outside window and on the lens itself. Not much is needed. The adhesive will become soft and then strong dental floss will cut through it.

Now time to figure out a nice optically clear adhesive and put it back together. On a BMW forum they have been using Permatex 66B Clear Silicone RTV Sealant with very good success. Cheap and easy to try anyways.

Dont try to clean the lens with anything other that your fingernail. Some chemicals will happily run the lens.

Your glass still has a lot of adhesive left on it. That will be a problem.
