Gas smell in engine oil filter

Hi benzers
Last time i changed the engine oil at the shop i took the oil filter with me to check for engine health the filter was so clean, i do this from time to time just to check if there is a metal inside the filter or etc.. but anyway there was a gas smell in the filter 😕 ...
What causes the gas to mix with oil ?

Have you recently replaced your rocker valve cover gaskets?
Have you removed the fuel line from the rail?

What viscosity oil are you using?
How is your oil level consumption?

EDIT:

Also.... use the search engine...... "gas smell in oil" and start reading.

It could be pushing past the rings, meaning you might have a stuck piston ring, then when it hits the compression stroke, some of the mixture is getting past and going into the crank case. You could test for sure by doing either a leak down test or a compression test.

I think there are some additives you can put in the fuel and the oil that may help get the ring unstuck if that is the case. I will confess that I have not much experience in using them though, with the exception that sometimes I will use a little marvel mystery oil in my crankcase, and a little in the fuel tank if I suspect a problem. I have never seen it make a huge difference, but the extra lubrication can only help things, not hurt. Also I would note that if you have access to 91 octane that doesnt contain ethanol, you should definitely be doing most of your fill ups there vs running a gas with ethanol. The more ethanol, the more deposits left behind.
