W202 C230 2000 2nd transmission or ECU error?

Hello,

I'm a newbie here. I have a 202, c230 year 2000 that has CEL on. I can't find threads about problems I'm having with my car so I appreciate it if someone can help me.

Last month, my car started having rough noise (like a diesel car) and rattles. There was no CEL, though. 3 weeks ago, CEL was on. I took it to my regular shop and they said the supercharger was not working properly so they sent me to a 2nd shop that knows more about Mercedes than them.

The 2nd shop ran diagnostic on Diagnosis Assistance System. Following codes came up:
- P1236: magnetic clutch of compressor: output stage is faulty
- P0410: secondary air injection: malfunction (function chain)
This 2nd shop thought he had to change transmission inside the supercharger. However, upon further inspection, he found that a green cable that connects the ECU and the supercharger did not fire consistent electricity to the supercharger. He thought I have to change the ECU.

I am not sure if it is really the ECU or maybe only the cable. Any thought is appreciated.

Thanks!

try to clear the fault code, and then check if the fault code come up again.

the - P0410: secondary air injection: malfunction (function chain) is an emissions fault code, should not have any effect on the performance

as for the other code, sounds like it could be as simple as a wiring/ecu problem or as complicated as an actual supercharger problem, I don't know much about the superchargers if the shop is as good as they have been toted to be they should be able to figure it out.

if you can replicate the signal that the ecu sends to the supercharger you can find out if it's the clutch or not by bypassing the ecu signal with the one you create. It would be similar to providing a 12volt constant signal to the ac compressor clutch to engage it to force it to stay on when refilling an empty ac system. I'm not sure what signal strength (voltage or ohm load) the ecu sends to the supercharger so i can't say just provide a 12volt constant to it.

Thank you for your reply. I took the car to a 3rd shop. They re-checked all the wiring. Wiring was fine. So, they said it's the ECU. They did find that the supercharger failed to pump air into the engine when the engine is in idle state. They did say that if I don't care much about the car performance and I don't mind having CEL on, I don't need to change my ECU and supercharger. My car worked fine, until today. It shakes violently today when it stops or in low RPM. *sigh*
