alpac....I am afraid so !
That is incredibly expensive and I hope some other owners will chime in and suggest other alternatives that are a lot less expensive. It seems like MBUSA has owners by the short hairs on replacing keys.
My 1999 ML430 doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer models, BUT it does have a removable hard key that WILL open the door and start the engine. Also available are the mickey mouse keys that you can hide in a safe location in a magnetic box, that will open and start the W163's.
So... as far as I know, if you lose your W166 key...you are s... out of luck unless you have a factory spare.
So...If you are the lucky owner of a newer Mercedes with the full on electronic keys, be very, very careful with it.
After writing this response..it just came to me there might be a good work around!
If you remove the click in hard key and add it to your regular keychain you will always be able to open the driver door with it and you can have your electronic portion stowed in the car all the time. That does however defeat the purpose of the newer technology allowing to enter the car without doing anything...
There may also be aftermarket solutions available, but MB has developed a secure but costly solution to your cars access.
Other suggestions and opinions are always welcomed !!
