ML-250 19" tire upgrade?

Hello.

I bought a CPO ML250 last October, and now 23,000 miles later, the Dunlop GrandTrek Touring tires are starting to look a little worn

It came with ?stock? MB 19" wheels and 255/50/19 tires.

The tires have been competent in dry, and OK in wet, but POOR in snow/slush. We also have an 1100 foot driveway up a mountain at our NH place, and it's gotten stuck several times in not much snow at all....leads to long/cold walks.

So, I'm wondering if anyone here knows what the maximum tire size I can upgrade to if I keep my stock rims and suspension.

I'm open to wider and taller, within reason.

Very partial to Michelin LTX-2's that I've run on various SUV's over the last 15 years.

Great info here, been lurking for a while

Iím happy with my Michelin latitudeís.
Canít comment on the snow part here in lovely Melbourne but great in the wet and dry.
They were very noisy for the first 200 km but soon settled in. I was ready to take them back the day after I got them but the tyre rep asked me to try them for 30 days and if I was still unhappy he would give me a full refund. Canít really ask for more than that.

Has anyone gone up iun width to a 265 or 275 width on the stock 19's?

I think the stock 19's look a little small in the wheel wells, and could use both a bigger contact patch and another 1/2-1" of ground clearance on the aformentioned hideous driveway uphill to our cabin.

I had 285/35/21ís on it when I got it, up from 265/40/21ís original.
I have 21Ē wheels with 295ís now.
Wouldnít wider tyres be worse for you in snow?

I would recommend Continental Extreme Contact DWS, not for snow m but dry and wet, for snow I would only use winter tires.
