Fuel Gauge, Indicators, and Rear Trunk release all broke

At the weekend, suddenly all of these things stopped working on my 2006 ML320 (UK).

The rear trunk release handle does nothing at all, but the lock button (keyless) still works. Also, the motor which pulls the trunk closed when you don't slam it hard is also doing nothing.

The indicators do nothing, but the hazards still go.

The fuel gauge reads zero.

I can't believe that 3 separate faults all happened at once. Is there something common to these three things? Rear SAM was replaced a few months ago due to leaking rear light cluster. Rear light cluster seal was done at the same time, and there's no obvious evidence of water ingress today.

I am hopelessly useless at anything mechanical, but if there's a fuse or something I can check I can just about cope with that.

Many thanks for any pointers.

Who replaced the rear SAM?

Where did you get the replacement SAM?

Was it used, new? Did he give you back the old one?

Pretty sure it was new, and yes I still have the old, very corroded one.

I've concluded, through everything I'm able to find on these forums, that the only thing that's in common with everything that's gone wrong (Which, incidentally, includes brake lights I've discovered), is the rear SAM. In a way, I hope it is because then it should be repaired under warranty.

All of your problems are controlled by the rear SAM. You, yourself must know what the code numbers are. If you rely on a mech. telling you the truth as to what the problem is, you will be in the dark.

You must get your own scanner and read the codes in every module in your car and then return to the mech. who in stalled the SAM and then see what he reveals as to what the problem is. But do not tell him that you have already scanned for codes.

Update on this:
Took it to Merc main dealer, who agreed to replace the SAM under warranty (2 yr warranty on the new part)

Thanks for your help though!
