I have an ‘08 and agree that D = 7th.
Curious about your comment on Sport vs Comfort mode. I’ve had that in E sedans, but not in the ML.

The transmission modes on mine (located on either side of hazard flasher) have a picture of a vehicle going downhill on left & uphill on right which I've come to understand left one is useful to have illuminated while towing through mountain passes as it will increase braking to compensate for trailer downhill. It is called DSR (downhill speed regulation) I think. The uphill one I've come to understand to be useful in slippage environments such as pulling a boat out of water on a slippery boat launch ramp. It is referred to as Off-road driving program & works with ABS, ESP, & 4-ETS to coordinate shifting points to be more suitable for uneven terrain & crossing water. In operator's manual, right button is different & shows a picture of a circle with 3 letters, M; C; S for manual, comfort, & sport so there are variants apparently. I wish I could disable steering wheel paddle shifters as I always seem to bump into them accidentally at most inopportune times & try to cause an overrev event.
