Sam or auxilliary battery?

Hi there, new to the forums and I have searched for an answer to my problem here but nothing seems to hit it on the head.

My headache is the 2011 ML350 blutec diesel W164. After fueling up today, started off and immediately after putting into drive the light show on the dashboard started, all warning lights went off and all error messages for everything from abs, dsr, def fuel level etc etc started then the dreaded drive to shop without shifting gears message. then the wipers started working while switched off and the gears started switching on their own. I quickly found a parking lot to roll into and then could not get it to change gears, all the while the warnings continued. Eventually got it to park then it would not even start, tried the manual key insert as well (keyless go). Finally, the drive to shop without changing gears remain lit and the cluster lights are still on (i just checked 3 hours later). I will be disconnecting the battery to save it from getting totally dead

I have 3 options that are possible that I have researched; front sam, rear sam or auxilliary battery.

Can any one or combination of such cause a complete failure, or reported failure of every system in the vehicle? I can't divorce this one yet so gotta fix....any tips?

Thanks

Up to 3/4 tank, put 10L of def in a week prior. Checked the Battery bay and its dry, going to check the rear sam to see if there is anything like moisture present. Going to get the icar reader but will not be here until Monday. leaving it sit till the weekend when I have more time to investigate. Just a note, the blind spot assist gave out a couple months ago and in the last week had low coolant warning but coolant was full.

Lastly, I have the oil leak under the filter housing somewhere as well, had that for years. Now noticing oil on the alternator as well. Basically going to have to rip it apart and clean it up and see where its coming from. I will update here as my journey unfolds. Got a lot of info on the oil issues from this forum already (thankfully) so i'm not too worried about that.

The priority now is to get the thing moving so i can get in the shop and start working on it. Just have to figure out if its worth it...

Did you ever consider the fact that you might have gotten bad gas?

After hooking up the battery again, the engine started and was running fine, all the bells and whistles for the esp etc went off again and the wipers played their intermittent dance across the windshield. After restarting a couple times the light show died down and got a final run down of whats not working. Wipers and gear selection not operating at all.

Imho Bad gas will not cause this situation and to re iterate, the engine starts like a champ.

icarsoft mb II will be here Monday.

Oh...and another footnote, the C320 i was using as a backup just blew a fuel pump...2 dead benz in the driveway.. ONLY THE BEST!!

There's too much guesswork involved, the codes must be read with a scanner, not a code reader.

Agreed, but i'm not a millionaire and the MB II can read all the modules i need to look at. Check coms from sams, bcm etc. Normal obd2 wont even come close.

Thanks for the input!

You don't have to be a millionaire to own this one.

I really don't see the advantage of the Autel. I'd either save $100 and get the iCarsoft or I'd spend $100 more and get SDS.

Wow, you've got some nerve. Who are you to unrecommend something? Just recommend your choice instead.
