Arrow How to clear gearbox... memory ?

I've just arrived from my dealer.

It seems that they expect a new software for the 420 CDI gearbox, but in the meantime, they cleared the learning settings on my car's gearbox.

As you probably know, the gearbox will try to learn how you drive (fuzzy logic), but I drive long periods of time in traffic jams (most of the time) so NOW it seems like another car!

It's changing gears much faster!

Is there a code or something to do this on my own ?
On my wife's BMW x3 it's possible by holding down the acceleration pedal 30s of the first position of the key.

Hi Courage,

According to one of the German forum's this is the way to reset the 7G-gearbox from MB:

1.) Turn ignition key into position 2. Do not start engine.

2.) Puch accelerator all the way down to KICKDOWN position. Keep this position for 5 seconds.

3.) With foot still holding accelerator down, turn ignition key back to position 0.

4.) Wait for approx. 2 minutes until the gearbox has reset.

The gearshifts will seem agressive to begin with. This is normal until it has learned the new changing patterns.

Hope this helps.

On another note, others have complained over increased consumption after the November 2008 "S-B-27.60/61j" gearbox upgrade. Is this an even newer upgrade?

Cheers

I don't know about this upgrade.
My dealer has nothing for 420 CDI, only for 320 CDI...

This is a big question... thre is something new for 420 CDI and my dealer doesn't have it ?

My car is produced in oct 2007.

Does the "learning gearbox" only pertain to the CDI models?

No, it is a feature of 7G-Tronic transmission.

Almost all modern gearboxes have this thing.
It's more or less advertised by producers...

There isn't going to be a chime or anything to let you know its been reset. The only way to tell is if you drive it and you notice a difference.

On step 4, do you have to continue holding the accelerator pedal down for the two minutes, or do you take your foot off once you have turned the ignition key back to position 0?
