1999 ML320 front end locks up. Help?!?!

Hi everyone. New to the forum. I bought my ML for 500. Thinking it was a good deal. Thre lady who owned it before had it for 19 years. She said that her mechanic quoted her 1500 to fix and was letting it go so cheap because it didn't run.

The engine starts and it engages all gears. So it had nothing to do with the engine or transmission (i think). Anyway, when i first got it, all 3 lights were on the dash (esp, bas, brake) thinking those were thr issue, i changed thr yaw, lateral and brake switch/sensors. All lights disappeared.

When you try to drive the car, it feels like the car wants to lock brakes at least the front driver. Sometimes it feels likes both front try to lock.

I tried driving it and it locked up and forced a stop. It does it on reverse but doesn't force me to stop. I can hear it grinding around.

One thing to note, i cannot push the car on neutral. The car is totally locked in neutral too.

I disconnected the ABS unit and the ESP fuses. And it still does it. (Does it have a secondary ABS or ESP comp?)

I changed out the front driver axel because the boot was busted. I also changed out the front diff thinking that was the issue and it still does it. I could have bad luck and picked a bad one from the yard.

I have a reg ODB reader and no codes are showing. No lights on the dash on.

I am gunna attach videos. Let me know what you guys think is going on. Thank you!!

Sounds to me like your transfer case is shot.

Fill out your profile to include location and vechicle. For example I know where two pick a part mls are. But if I have no idea of where you are in relation to me. With a location a member may let you in on one they spotted.

If my memory is correct early mls had a 50:50 ratio newer a 50:48. There were problems with the 50:50. Don’t know if you can swap with a 50:48 should you indeed have the 50:50?

You also need to get a scanner that can read codes form all systems. I hear good things about the Autel MD802 Elite.

I tried to update my location. But it doesn't let me? Maybe bc I'm on my phone? Anyway. Im in California with zip 92701. There are some MLs in the narby lkqs. So i picked up a front differential for it and still does this. The differential i replaced, did the same thing. Makes me feel like its something else. I was leaning to a bad transfer case

Even if i get another reader, there are no codes for a bad transfer case right?

Thanks for all the input.

I have a 1999 ML320 which makes it a w163.

Disconnect the front driver shaft from the transfer case and spin the wheels by hand on full lock. If it still does it it’s most likely to be your front axles.

When you say on full lock what do you mean? How do i lock them? Also i did change out the drivers side axle and the front differential. It Is doing the same thing with this differential and the old one.

Just the steering on full lock.
Have you disconnected the front drive shaft off the transfer case.
