Just another fuel level sensor problem

So recently I've been facing the fuel level sensor issue.

Background story:
The fuel pump assembly was bad, as per broken parts but the level sensor worked ok, although sometimes readings may delay until I'm idling on an incline and move again.

I changed it for some after market one; sadly no oem used unit and expensive to import one at this time.

The fuel level sensor looks ok, doesn't look off at all but fuel level wouldn't hold.

What I've tried:
1. The famous fuse reset of the ICM: on doing this, meter jumps to the level and over a short time, under 30minutes, falls back to 0.

2. Control module software reload with hhtwin in DAS. This seemed to work for a few days but then all things went back to the usual.

What I think is the real issue is: the control module is not really clearing the error: fuel level sensor short circuit to positive, open circuit. If you clear and read it's again there instantly, on ignition on.

To read level I use my Autel md802 to clear the error, as I clear it reads to the level detected and then over about 30 minutes will drop off to 0, the Amber low fuel light doesn't illuminate *edit* but will occasionally flash for a few seconds at random even when the level is very high after a reset of the fuse or by the scanner.

I've looked at other posts, is there any solution for this? This one is stubborn.

With SDS/HHTWin change the setting from normal to actual value. If that also doesn't work, then the sensor is cooked

Thanks a lot! That would be under the codings for the module right?

Thank you, I would give it a go on the morning and update.

Just another fuel level sensor problem

Ok so unfortunately the cable for my star system is misbehaving so I've been unable to perform the check art asked for. But here's some update and why I'm beginning to be convinced this is actually something with the control module software...

I am convinced the fuse 5 pull and reset is not reliable, I think, why? Every time you pull that an reseat it goes straight to full tank. Now if this is a problem due to a faulty level sensor I'm not 100% sure, why, because once the code is permanent(fuel level sensor has an open circuit, short circuit) if I use the MD802 to clear the code it reads the correct level! But... Pull the fuse, 1/1 all the time.

Another thing, once you get a correct reading, in a few minutes of driving it starts to dip out to 0, if in the course of that dip you get the amber light flashing then with some luck you may just get the guage read correctly and start dipping again.

If you clear code shortly after the last code wipe, Amber light flashes, gauge doesn't respond but after some more miles, clear the code, you get a correct reading. Then ... It begins to drop...

The fact that it reads correctly the instant you send the dtc clear command is indicative that the gauge works properly.. Any thoughts? I will take some resistance readings and post up here again.

The software version is 05/01, anyone know of an updated software for the instrument cluster?
