05 ML500 with 55 amg swap...is it doable?

Is it a simple drop in or would it require more work in the programming dept.? Transmission and and engine swap not just engine alone. I ask because the 05 ml500 is newer, more refined, and can be bought with the amg power bump hood, and proper amg body style. Any one have any experience or an idea? Does the 05 ml500 still use the 722.6 5 speed?

I put the ML55 engine and transmission into my 430 but it was a 2000 ml.
I changed the chip from the 55 ECU and put it into the 430 ECU. That for me was more nerve racking than the engine swap.
I canít comment whether itís possible in the 05 ECU.
The transmission is a different animal it seemed a lot more aggressive in its shifting to me. Better!!

Thank you for your reply. I have definitely looked into the pre facelift ml swap but it requires a lot more work than just the engine. It would need the suspension radiator with the aux fan as well. I was even thinking an 03 special edition but then why not just go for the 05. Turns out it uses the 722.6 but not the beefed up amg one. did you do the soldering or did you send it out/go somewhere to get it done? btw awesome job

There is a thread on my swap. Putting it into the 05 would be the ultimate way to go.
I did the soldering myself but I did do a few practice runs on an old ECU. I also bought all the correct soldering equipment for that particular job. YouTube is great for some demoís.
Youíll need to do some research on the ECU versions to make sure the chip will be compatible. Have you already got the engine?

Just curious, have you thought about dropping in the M113k?

55 & 500 have different diff ratio. It's not just a simple drop............
Matt could do it because 430 & 55 match.

I’ve definitely seen your thread before. Helpful but I can’t seem to find anything for any 03+. I would assume an 03 special edition would be pretty close to an Ml55 from that year. No engine yet but my Ml55 has a good trans and good parts to swap over. Again thank you for your input. I would be afraid to damage any motherboards by soldering it myself as I’m pretty shite at anything having to do with steady hands. I feel like Cpt Miller from Saving Private Ryan

Absolutely but the issue is the wiring and computers. Also the Ml55 or even 05 ml500 is using 4matic which I would assume complicated things even further. I saw a thread on mbworld of someone who did it with steps but thorough enough info to replicate it. Also he wrote about it having trouble running and getting things right to keep it reliable. Tbh I think an m113k swap is more so what I’m looking for. I think if I were to put time and money into getting the amg m113 properly fitted into an 05 ml i might as well upgrade to the m113k swap. Otherwise I’ll just buy a running Ml55 and swap the designo interior from mine. Do you have any info on a m113k swap?

Here’s a picture I came across on a Facebook group with an ml m113k swap. Idk if it’s an Ml55 though

Definitely going to be a big challenge. Especially for me with no experience doing any swaps or serous car modifications. I’ll probably just end up getting a regular running Ml55 and swap stuff from my own. There is a local HPS supercharger for sale that is made for the m113 but I’ve read online that HPS supercharger made no no extra power on the m113. Thank you for your reply. I had no idea the diffs were different
