The W163 Still Rocks

MY05 ML500
I haven't driven mine since last summer - really didn't have the opportunity to drive the truck. So on Friday I made up a dinner engagement with my wife, ~2.5 Hr to Alexandria, VA. She has a R231 which could have been just fine for the night out (more romantic and ... whatever!), but this trip was going to be a ML trip, one way or the other, with all the ML headaches through the entire trip. We dined Friday in Old Town Alexandria, stayed the night and returned home Saturday night. It was not a heavy driving trip (great night-out though), but I had a satisfactory grin on my face all the way to and back. The ML was great. The truck was loud, noisy, bouncy and seemingly drunk on gas,..., just like you would expect a W163 to be, but it felt "safe like a tank." Maybe newer vehicles give this feeling or better, but I had a blast this weekend with my old truck. So just before we got home, my wife said this to me "I don't remember the truck being so bouncy." I reminded her that the ML is a truck, not a car. She gave me a nod - I love this lady!

My wife hated my ML55, it was as ruff as bags but shit it went around corners fast. It was fun to drive. She’s much happier in the ML500 now.
The new one can still make me smile .

I agree that ML has a bouncy ride. My wife is driving a Grand Cherokee and there is a big difference in power and comfort. But this Alabama panzer is still one of the safest cars out there. It will be my son's first car in 4 years.

Where did you eat in old town, the Thai restaurant there is great we ate there twice on our trip!

Aside from that my wife loves our ml, the Mommy van died Windstar 230,000 miles, needed a car quick, came upon this ML500 by fate. With the Windstar we go some where she would hand me the keys and say you drive. The ML I hardly get to drive it when we are out together.

This Friday we are going on an extended weekend trip, Just yesterday she says "I can't wait to drive the ML to Spokane this weekend" (It's a 7 hour trip) me "You going to let me drive" her reply "may be some of it we'll see". Four hours changing the sparkplugs yesterday I get a we'll see!

My wife drove the in-laws 320 one day, I asked if she noticed the difference. She said they drive the same to her. I am looking for a 2000+ 320 so I can have exclusive use of the 55.

Love Thai food - never done Thai in Old Town, but have been to the one in the National Harbor several times. We had dinner at Fish market then did brunch at the Warehouse, both in Old Town.

I had to go to DC yesterday, and since the ML was still available, I took it. This time it was just me and it was a work trip. Still enjoyed the truck. She's back to storage now, LOL, until my daughter's graduation next month.
