Quad tailpipes?

Hello all. I bought a 2002 facelift ML55 last August. Feel that the standard exhaust outlets are a bit wimpy and fancied some quads instead. There seem to be plenty around for the W164 model but not the W163? Can anyone recommend any, or would the ones in the links be suitable?

I live in Spain and the annual ITV check is very strict regarding modifications. Both the tailpipes in the links have AMG stamped on them so am hoping they look would OEM to the casual observer.

Quad tailpipes?

I think youíll need a set that is basically straight or slightly shorter to the outside pipe. (Looking down at them if you know what I mean.)the first link the outside pipe is to short in relation to the back bumper. The second link look to be better.
Then youíll have to look underneath in order to decide if the intake pipe can be centre or offset as in both your links. Having it centre you can cut a bit of the bumper either side.
It will definitely look better, Hell I saw a ďSmartĒ with quad pipes and it looked cool. Lol
I used a set of EClass E63 quad pipes on mine, they are the rectangular type.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do know what you mean. The ones in the link are too angled. I think this one will be better and the inlet pipe is in the middle.

Interesting how you did yours. Will see if I can find any. Did you have to modify the bumper to accomodate them?

Yes Iíve completely redone my rear bumper. I also built a full custom stainless steel exhaust system so my mounting would be completely different from yours.
I hade the exact same ones as those before I put the E63 ones on.

Sounds good but I will need to keep things as unmodified as possible. Hopefully tailpipes like the ones in the last link that I posted, can be fitted with maybe just a small bit of trimming to the bumper, if necessary.

I have a couple of follow up questions, if I may?

There is a long narrow strip which sits just above the rear bumper and below the tailgate. On my 2002 ML55 it is solid and painted the body colour. I have seen quite a few others where this strip is more like a grille? Was this part changed between models or production years?

Also, I have a detachable towbar but do not have the panel which can be fitted when the towbar is removed. Is there a part number for this or can it still be obtained?

It's not stupid. It's simply personal style. Horsepower alone does not make a car. I could put a label on people who think that way, but it would be stupid of me to do that.

The thread is about quad tail pipes on an ML55 which in my opinion would more than qualify.
Totally agree with darkmann Itís all personal choice and how you like your car to look.
