Long time no see! ML500 SE side step removal

Hey y'all — it's been a while since I sold my ml430 but I'm thinking of coming back. If been mulling a ml55 vs a an 04-05 ml500 SE. I'm leaning towards the newer (and anecdotally more reliable) ml500. Since in all the comparison threads that I have read the performance differences just aren't that obvious.

There is one blaring issue though. I fricken HATE the side step on the SE — it is just so ugly and awkward to me. Has anybody removed it? If so, does it come off cleanly or is there a bunch of mounting hardware. I know this is a stupid thing to get hung up on but that's life. Anyway, hmu - if anyone has thoughts on this.

TIA

Hi pdxgrease , once they are removed it looks like you will need the 2 piece plastic stone/ sill guard to replace them. Should be easy enough to get though.

ML500 SE side step removal

Welcome back. I removed my 05 ML-500 SE Running boards . To Me they were an after thought. Looked like the add on they were. And to satisfy a growing request for a more family style application in the USA growing market of SUVs

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...moval-diy.html lots of good pictures

Cheers _PTEngineering

What a pity I'm the wrong side of the pond or I would be very interested in buying these if you want to sell, maybe ugly but my mother can't get into my ML and these would be perfect, right color too

Ok cool — thanks for the response. Now I can safely shop for a SE without worrying about the side step abomination.

I'm making progress.... and Ironically I think this one is stanced such that the side steps just dont look bad... weird.
Picking this up over the weekend. Do a fly and drive. It looks to be in excellent condition with all maintenance up to date.
New tires/brakes and 160k miles @ $6k..

Comes with original wheels too so i'm probably gonna run some oversized AT's for winters.

Looks to have been very well looked after. Interior is in great condition. If any thing you could drop the front just a touch. Well done drive safely and enjoy.

Yes that's it, just wind them down a bit. it just looks a little high at the front in one photo but it might just be the angle it's on.
