how to add transmission fluid

Hey guys,

My 2001 ml320 is leaking transmission fluid and I want to top it off before I bring it to the dealership for a transmission fluid change. I was looking in the engine bay and don't see a tube for me to add the transmission fluid. (i know it suppose to be sealed for life and it doesn't have a dipstick). can anyone help and tell me where it is? thanks

They change the location of the tube on different years, but usually it is at the firewall slightly on passenger side.
You can use 1/8" steel cable as a dipstick. There are several pictures of measurements on the forum.

The cap looks like the one in the photograph, which I
just replaced this weekend.

There is a red clip on that cap hole. You need to break
the red tab, and push the remaining plastic red
clip down, and out, with a thin nail or wire. Then
the cap will be able to pop out.

In reality, you just need the red securing clip
and re-use the cap, but I don't remember if they
sell them separately..

You need a funnel to avoid spilling fluid around,
and make sure you use the appropriate fluid. There
are fluid additives that are very important for the
correct operation of the automatic transmission..

2005 ML 500
Black, 18" AMG Wheels, 285/60R18 Yokohama Geolander HTS + Bi-Xenons(+ Drew's e-code mod, though the reflectors rusted off and do not give out much light anymore), Yakima roof bars, Akebono pads all around. Former vehicle 2001 ML 320 with 108K miles, when traded, and a large repair/defect history. After all these years of owning my current 2005 ML 500, it is a major unreliable vehicle with a very large/expensive repair/defect history and has been like this since brand new.
