Exclamation Camshaft Oilers Question

My 1997 S/CL500 has the plastic Camshaft Oilers ( I assume, as i have not opened the Valve Cover Gasket to check). My question is, when is it recommended to replace them ? I would obviously replace them with the Aluminum Oilers.

I would replace them, only if the lifters tick, as a sign of popped end.

I replaced mine with newer plastic parts 8 years ago. Still good (granted, in Norway we do not get the same high operating temperatures as elsewhere).

My original oilers on an E420 lasted 160K, then only 2 of them were bad. If you can find metal ones, OK but I don't fear the plastic ones at all.

To answer your question. If they're ticking replace them. If you have to do anything involving removing the valve covers replace them. Keep in mind when you start removing parts that have gaskets you are going to get into the "Might As Well Zone" MAWZ.

You have this open so you might as well replace this, you have that off so you might as well replace that ect……..Not too expensive if you are DIY but it can become and obsession LOL
