Creative Conversion: The C140 Shooting Brake

An ambitious project is about to get underway: The creation of a (unique?) 140 shooting brake.

I have collected 140ís for many years and enjoy them immensely. Many of you already know that.

Several years ago, I purchased a forum memberís damaged S600 coupe, with this idea in mind. I also purchased an E-class wagon that had a seized motor. I have finally found the fabricator I would feel comfortable doing the work to merge the two bodies in a way that would produce a shooting brake.

The project gets under way this week.

I am expecting its conclusion some time this summer.

I will ask everyone on the forum to give me their thoughts and advice. I will definitely need some help as the coupe has NO INTERIOR, whcih was stripped out of it before I bought it.

This is not the first ground-up resto-mod I have done. Some of you may recall Mallorie, a 1992 600SEL that was destined for the scrap yard, saved with a complete overhaul, paint work, interior completed in 2013, that won BEST IN SHOW at Montvale in 2014.

Photos will follow. Updates will be regularly supplied.

Wish us luck!

Good luck stryker! Always fun to have projects.

Can you clarify what's a shooting shoe for the uneducated individual? Which body part is going where?

A shooting brake is a two-door station wagon or estate is the term used in England.

A modern shooting brake is the Ferrari FF.

Originally designed by Rolls Royce and Bentley to serve the fox or bird hunters in the English countryside, it was the vehicle the guns and ammo would be carried in, or the dogs, or the beaters, the men who would beat the bushes to flush out the game. A versatile vehicle designed to serve the needs of the hunt.

Or another version of our elegant C140 body with the glorious M120 motor aboard.

I know others have tried placing a M120 engine inside a E500, but that’s another issue that, in my opinion, is harder to do, given the mouse coffins, etc.

Good luck with the resto-mod. A W140 Shooting Brake with an M120!

Sounds more like a Rocket Brake!

Hi Stryker!

That's such an amazing project to engage in! Best of luck with it!!! I can't wait to see the progress.

Some time in '94 Italian design firm and coach builder Zagato actually built a C140 shooting brake concept. Something I only recently discovered. Here are a couple pics!

Stryker,
Take a look at this thread where a guy built a shooting brake from a Jaguar XJS. Might give you some ideas. He did it all himself.
