Need Carsoft 7.4 help! Tranny Issue

Hello All!

I'm continuing to bring my '96 S500 back from the dead. (133,000 miles) The engine is sounding great but the transmission won't shift.

I've put on a new Mercedes conductor plate, new MB plug, and refilled the transmission fluid. I've also purchased an older laptop and installed Carsoft 7.4 software with a multiplexer

What module do I need to clear the error code from? I've cleared the EGS (Auto Transmission) module thru Carsoft, but the car still won't shift.

She'll run all day long in one gear, but I can't get her to shift into other gears.

Do I need to clear the TCM module? I don't see an option for that on Carsoft.

I really appreciate any guidance you can provide!!

Mike,

What were(are) the codes? Through carsoft list of codes it would point the finger on which direction. The shifter could be the problem, or the TCM may have oil in it. Are the TCM connectors wet?

Will oil drip out like post 5?

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...sion-plug.html

This is how you open it, and clean it-Post 15:

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...ny-please.html

Then try your reset...

Try to disconnect the tcm and see if there is fluid in it. My grand edition had half cup of tranny fluid in it. I cleaned my tcm with electrical circuit cleaner and replaced the pin connector that attached to the conductor plate.

When I first got the car, I cleaned the TCM. There was oil that wicked up inside it, so I got contact cleaner and cleaned it out. I also sprayed the connectors and the wires going into them.

I'm going to try the transmission reset by putting the key in and stepping on the gas.

I read a post about the transmission selector/shifter and how it could be a problem. How can I check this?

Thanks!!

The key reset only clears the user adaptation values-Your style of driving, and that procedure is done this way...

https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...omp-reset.html

IT WILL NOT CLEAR YOUR HARD LIMP MODE

To clear limp mode is done through carsoft, Mercedes Star.....

Removing the battery/leaving it overnight disconnected, or a year disconnected/ clearing it through the OBD port will NOT WORK...

It is all done by the 38pin connector in the engine bay... Do not get the idea the JOE Blow auto shop with his whiz-bang $10k to $20k OBD Snap-On tester can clear it through the OBD port, Sorryyyyyy Not going to work... All is done through the 38 pin connector in the engine bay....

The shifter, you have Carsoft. It will scan all the (through the 38 pin connector)modules, and will spit-out the errors, and give you the codes too pointing to the shifter...

I first ran Carsoft with the engine off and key in the run position. The software could connect to the AIRBAG module, instrument cluster, and the AIRCO. ON all the others, I get a "Module is not build in or does not respond."

I then ran Carsoft with the engine running and was able to clear the EGS module (which I couldn't do with the engine off and the key in the run position). But I cannot connect to the other modules. The rest say "Module is not build in or does not respond."

Yea that is carsoft for you. The multiplexer is giving you fits(permanent fits). I would have dished-out a few hundred more for Mercedes Star. It is worth the investment. No problems since my days with car soft...

Post 14 is the unit that I have...

The MB Star C4?

It's only $300??

And it works much better than Carsoft? I may return my Carsoft and get this. How quickly does it arrive? Are there any issues with it?
