Intermittent starting issue (1991 500se)

Hello and good afternoon, so I have been a long term user of the forum but embarrassingly I've only recently joined, I was looking for some advice on a strange intermittent starting issue with my newly purchased 1991 500se (w140)

So the problem, some times it's starts perfectly, other times it doesn't, the break down,

Green lights flash in the door handle,
Key goes in to ignition, all ignition lights come on,
Turn the key and the starter cranks but no fire,
The fuel pump doesn't prime,
I have added some staRter fluid and the engine tries to fire meaning there's spark,
So I bridged the fuel pump relay and still no fire, (injectors not firing)

But If you wiggle the gear stick between neutral and park while turning the car over eventually it primes the fuel pump and starts!

So I'm thinking it's a sticking micro switch, but surly the neutral safety switch only stops the starter,

So what do you think?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I'd concentrate on the NSS and the linkage bushings.

But from looking at nss, they have nothing to do with the fuel pump? Only the starter motor??

Hello I thought I would give some feed back! It seams that my issue came back to a crank position sensor, so new Bosch one fitted! And it now starts like a champ!
