another coolant fitting that breaks

well today I was driving home and I saw my low coolant light turn on and my temp raised to 95 and i made it home and I see there a plastic fitting on a hose which connects the expansion tank, radiator and engine. the dealer doesn't sell that fitting and you have to replace the whole hose ($85+tax) and my expansion tank was also broken ($120+tax) the hoses them selves are in great condition don't get me wrong I am not trying to be a cheap guy here but is it possible to swap out to a copper fitting (long life time)? I am letting you guys know so you don't get stuck on the road (lucky for me I made it home)

Could you provide a photo of the failure area?
Do you suppose your failure of the expansion tank was due to a failure of the pressure relief cap?

you guys think its worth buying a behr tank? Also the plastic was deteriorated so its normal wear and tear. the bright side was the coolant was fresh ( I have been wanting to replace it for the last few months). the bottom of the tank was rusted though (it wasn't oil but it smelled like rust, so either way I need to replace tank plus something was rattling in the tank) now another question is it okay to drive 10miles with regular water and a little coolant (just enough to drive to the shop for a flush)?

Sure its OK. You're going the 10 miles for a flush and refill so no harm, no foul. Keep the cap loose so you don't get pressure built up.
