Springs Burls shims ??

I was looking to get some new shims for my front springs have gone to dealer and he has asked how many burls do I have and I don't have a clue what that is.

Can anyone explain how do I know how many burls do I have ??!!

Thanks !

I think in that reference he is referring to the height of your insulators. One burl being 5mm, and for each additional burl an extra 4mm. For example, 2 burls would be 9mm, 3 13mm, etc.

Thanks for the diagram ! I suppose burls are how many notches in the shim....is there any way of knowing which one i need without looking at the exising one ? Will it make too much of a difference if i just go ahead and buy the one with 4 burls ?

Thanks

Actually, not the number of "Notches"... Rather the number of "Points" sticking out.

In the case of my pic- I have "Three" Burls.

Just get out there with a flashlight (Torch?) and have a look at the top of the spring. You might have to Jack up the car, slightly, in order to get enough of a view.
