I have limo tint in the rear windows and back window, and 30% tint in the front windows (70% visibility), and no tint on the windshield (duh!). It's actually very nice, only issue is you can barely see anything during the night through the rear window besides outlines of cars and their lights. Can't even make out if it's a cop or not no matter how close they are lol. Overall though, I think it's worth having windows tinted for heat purposes. I do recommend to go with the metallic film that doesn't reflect like a mirror though if possible, it prevents a lot more heat than normal. Also, you risk getting pulled over by cops if your front windows are tinted, I've been pulled over once and "warned" to remove them because it's not allowed in california, but since the tint isn't very noticeable, I'm ok, just have to let the driver side window down in the very picky neighborhoods.

Oh make sure you get actual gray/black tint, and not the cheap purple crap. Purple is hideous and cheap looking, and is likely to peel.

One issue with the W140's though especially the coupes is the black edges around the windows ahve little bubbles (not sure why), and the tint has a hard time getting in between them, so you'll have like a whiter edge on the tint where the bubbles are. Those require lots of patience. My coupe took around $150 to install everything.

Thanks Perkunas; I appreciate the feedback and info - but if I do it, I'm not going to go with the metallic tint.

If I do tint, it will be the ceramic nano-technology, with zero metallic. As that is much better at cutting heat and has zero bubbling.

But then you get what you pay for, as it's $500 or so.

Hmmn, that's almost a MAF sensor.

I researched this quite heavily when I first moved to Florida, as I had a couple of MBs with R134a conversions that weren't terribly efficient, especially a 1988 W124 wagon. That thing was like a greenhouse in this climate!

I met up with the particular business I have used since, who tints both cars and homes and has done so for many years.

They directed me to the Llumar ATX high performance metallized tint, saying that the only real functional difference between it and the ceramic CTX tint was the effect the metallized tint had on RF (radio frequency) energy. If I wasn't worried about a slight difference in my cell phone signal, functionally the ATX would do the same job when it came to blocking UV for about half the price.

My cars all have Llumar ATX film on them, with 30% on the front windows as required by Florida law, and 15% on the back and rear windows. Unless you're in bright sunlight it's difficult to tell a difference, and the combination allows me to get the maximum amount of protection and stay legal. $179.95 installed with a lifetime warranty. I have found the ATX film to be really tough and resistant to scratches as well.

For the substantial difference in cost, I don't really see the value in using the ceramic films, but to each his or her own, I guess. I'm looking for UV protection and will give up some signal strength on my cell phone for the lower cost.

I'll post a picture of the S420 later today when the sun is up so you can see what it looks like.

15% all around. The only trouble i've had is reversing when its dark out and there is no light around. I want a windshield tint to keep the sun off the dash since it parks outside. Anybody have a 70% or 50% windshield tint?
