VicoWorld, I agree 100% with NZJay. I've had my '97 CL600 for a little over two years now. I'm sort of fussy and will spend the money to make the car perfect so I'm probably not the one to give advice. My car had only 46K on it and was a true "garage queen". However, It still needed one MAF, plugs, mounts, coils, spheres, etc. I have a little over 20K(USD) into mine. However it will be my last car. It runs beautifully and has been very reliable. I took a 3600 mile trip last year and it never missed a stroke!
Good luck.

Well I finally made the plunge and purchased my first C140 (96 S600) and I’m in love, drives like a dream except for the stiff sports suspension that was added and the fact that the car is low with 20” rims with low profiles ... makes the ride very stiff so I will need to see what I can do but the rims look amazing on it... needs dent removal and paint with some minor rust under the tail lights but other than that so far amazing car.. very happy

VicoWorld - congratulations, you have bought one of the very best cars ever made, anywhere.

I know this to be true as I have driven or owned many, many cars including your car, a V12 W140, An M119 W140, Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, etc.

First off the M120 coupe is in my view one of the top 3 or 4 cars ever made. Why? Because it can do anything you want it to. This will require patience, attention to detail and investment, but you can set up the suspension to ride super soft and have a wonderfully smooth but incredibly fast ride - think Air Force One. I've not been in AF1 but I have been in the cockpit of several 747s for take off and landing, and the C140 M120 gets closest to that experience of any car I've been in. So,...

Second, don't ever sell it. Pretty much every MB after the C140 M120 is cheaper and lesser by comparison.

Third - your concerns - you may be young, but ditch the silly wheels. Get your self either the 16" stock wheels if you want the plush ride or find the genuine 18" AMG wheels that came with the CL for a sporty ride that still feels wonderful. To get the ride right you will likely need to replace the accumulators, possibly the shocks (get OE) and even the subframe bushings if you really want to make it perfect.

Fourth, go to your MB Dealer and tell them you have a new, classic V12 coupe and your willing to give them all your business as you restore this V12, BUT you want wholesale on parts and a reasonable labour charge. (e.g. $100 p/hr). But make sure you go see the Service Director and make sure they have an OLD experienced head tech as many times the dealer will not have anyone who knows W140's.

5. - At 191km the trannie may be about to die on you. Sorry, but that's just how it is and it isn't cheap Contact MAVA he is THE MAN on transmissions. Period. I suggest you get the trannie tested - MAVA can advise how - and then see if you take a don't touch approach, or if there is enough life in it still, then change the trannie oil etc,.

6. - As for the V12 it's basically bullet proof - mine has over 250,000km now and is 100% reliable.

Good luck, and make it the best it can be and you will never want another car. The Ferrari 355 I drove was great, but not as good, the Rolls was nice, but kind of like a modern BMW - hence not as good as a W140. Hmmn, what else. The W140 M120 I have is different and just as good, it not as GREAT. this is because you can set the C140 up to drive however you want - it is like 3 cars in one - silent cruiser, or like a 747 - so powerful and yet eerie quiet, or like a phenomenal smooth but perfect sports car, which with a pipe can sound superb.

CAR magazine famed writer LJK Setright said the only other car he had come across like this was the Ferrari Mondial T - as it allows YOU to determine what kind of car it was.

In my opinion, the C140 M120 takes that to the next level.

The seat belt butlers, windows, rubber trim, rear suspension and so forth may drive you nuts, but she will be worth it. You have a super model who is well educated, cultured - and who won't fuck around on you - but she is infinitely expensive.

And you should not want it any other way, as she is the best.

Less than a month after purchasing my first c140 (1996 s600) I found a local silver 1993 600sec amg from japan with 95,500 km ! Needless to say I spared no time after seeing it and bought it aswell ... the car has issues running but with such a rare find I am determined to get it back up and running the body is in great condition no rust and straight panels... I will need a lot of help restoring this car to its original glory. Any help is appreciated
