the evil that lurks under the hood... is really the devil himself

this post is inspired by ackvig and goatman ( https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140...highlight=evil )

it seriously is the devil himself, waiting to destroy your precious 140's engine

following the footsteps of our friend here who first posted about the unfortunate incident where the little T fitting at the back of the engine broke and necessitated a whole new engine, I went to the dealer today and bought that little bugger (its a dual T fitting.. I will post the pics and DYI guide shortly)

mine did not leak and looked brand new just by looking at it

anyway.. it has 2 big clamps and 2 little ones.. once I undid all the clamps and attempted to take it out, the 2 bigger pipes slid out rather easily and to my complete surprise and disbelief... one of the little pipes (the same one that's known to break), just came loose in my hand... it had cracked/broken previously and it was barely holding on. All this time, the damn pipe wasnt even leaking so if I didnt read about our friend's experience here, I would have never known until it busted on me in the middle of nowhere!!!

This should be a regular maintenance item... should be replaced once every few yrs and if you have a 140 where this item has not been attended to, you need to do this NOW

on a v8, it's very easy to change it.. all you need is a 6mm socket and an extension. Took me approx 15 min to change. If you remove the air cleaner assy., it's a quick job

I will post pics soon .. in the meantime, buy the part tomorrow and replace it

my dealer had it in stock and said they sell them a lot because they break a lot on the 140s

the damn part needs to be made out of Aluminium, or some kind of metal... not plastic.

I paid about $50 cdn from the dealer

stand beside the car.. driver's side (passenger side in your case since your car is RHD)

look at the firewall... right in front of it, you will see a coolant line going into the firewall... follow that line and right in front of it, you will see the TT fitting

I will post pix soon

50 bucks for a bit of plastic connector.....it's alomost enough to make it worth having one made up.

yes sir.. here are the pics:

Here I am standing in front of the car, and pointing to the part. To the right of my hand, you will see the left spark plug cover (this is on the V8 engine with the air cleaner removed)

This is a pic of the old part while on the car - it's dusty so it looks whitish

I am just holding the new part (the way it would go on) to show you the orientation of the part, so you can visually get an understanding of how it fits:

old broken part and the new one (can you spot the old part )

The little piece came off as soon as I loosened the clamp and pulled on the rubber line just a tiny bit

I have to emphasize.. while this was on the car, it did not leak, and you could not tell that it was broken but it was. When I gave it a gentle pull it came off... it wasnt because I was rough or anything.. I gave it a very gentle pull... it was already broken inside, waiting to pop

go and get this done now... and do it every couple of yrs

on a V8, it took me 15 min. I would imagine it would be considerably longer on a V12. On a straight 6, it should be quick as well as there is a lotta room

Sorry got it: for those who can't be bothered to read upside down it's: 1408326615
