Possible Gen I / Gen II Confusion
'm currently running the antirollbar with the rubber links as in pick is this an earlier set up
I see some cars run a different set up with a link that has two bushes each end.
Is this a later setup and is it better
Can i change to this if so what's needed
yes i have the set up in pic one think its gen 1 but car is a gen 2
can i convert to gen 2 if so what's involved
Mine also has this set up what is this for and can the gen 2 system still be added with this in place
What's a anti squat system and how does it work
The part the anti roll bar attaches to on the hub as in pic 1 is around £200 each side If i replace just these on each side and the part below it the parts alone are around £1000
Unless anyone has any links where I can get them cheaper
Benz,
Up to model year '85, our W126 models are referred to as Gen I. As you know, '86 on are labelled Gen II.
Our current BW labelling of replacement rear anti-sway bars can be confusing when applied to our own personal 'needs' in this respect.
When considering a more robust rear bar for my car, I too, had to research 'heavily' as to what I had before ordering something appropriate [that would fit].
As an '87 & a '91, both of my SECs are clearly 'Gen II.
As yours, both my cars have the aluminum "anti-squat" semi-trailing arms in the rear which means John's 'Gen II' offerings will not fit.
I project perhaps, but don't we think something 'Gen II' would generally be an upgrade/enhancement from the previous 'Gen I'? I do anyway..
Given that line of reasoning, I think I see think what you are after....
Fellow member lucky mike says it well here: "
If it was my car, I'd leave as is. You have the anti-squat rear which I think is much better than the later, more simple style."
In addition to the description w/pictures above, John350 has offered a link to the
only [at this point] supplier of a 19mm sport rear bar kit for our W126 Gen II anti-squat cars.
I saw this morning
Dkubus is out of stock concerning that bar.. and in my opinion, it is worth waiting for.
Mine has been on for a year now. The word "
transformational" comes to mind.
I hope this offers some clarity for you
Here are some pics to illustrate.
