All I can think of is checking the cables especially the ground.

Ignition key on. All dash warning lights on.
Check the battery light, it should be ON.
If its not, replace the bulb, or, broken disconnected wire.

The light is the signal/sensor, that makes the alternator charge.

aam.

STILL NOODLIING OUT THE CHARGING ISSUE

Here is specific vehicle information:

1983 280SE EURO MODEL MERCEDES
THE ENGINE NUMBER IS 110 989 126 155
VIN # IS WDB 126 02211 207 9595

I will run a good ground from the engine to the battery to see what happens.
will take a few days since the two piece alternator pulley spun and will need to be replaced.

Also....can i check the alternator by measuring voltage...see pic.

the new alternator may be defective.

Good call, could well be a faulty alternator, especially if its a cheaper one. But even if not, don't rule it out.

I keep a little cheap charge Led indicator that tells me how many volts, just in case. Plugs into the cigarette lighter. You could try that as an easy option and you can see how it behave while running.
