Many more 560SEL/SEC owners will be in your situation. What alternatives do you see (I am not implying you should pay, I am just wondering what the future holds for us)? It's obvious the prices are going up as existing NOS gets depleted, not sure if new ones will be made again. So, what will our choices be?

Is anybody aware if the subframe and rear LCAs from the 420SEL can fit the 560SEL and/or SEC? I am getting ready to throw my 420SEL away and wondering about keeping the rear suspension for a potential suspension swap on the SEC or my future SEL if it happens to be a 560SEL (the 420SEL doesn't have SLS, which lately proves to be a paint in the neck).

The W126 struts are pretty much the same as W116 - 450/SEL 6.9. looks like only the hose fitting is a bit different. In the W116 world a few people have learned how to rebuild them. MB makes new front struts that are about $1600 each, but not the rear ones. I have not yet, but have 4 rears and 6 fronts that I plan on replacing the internal o rings and maybe the nylon ring. I would like to find a hydraulic ram engineer to find out what the nylon ring does and what tolerances are needed on it. Search the M-100 forum and you can learn how to take them apart. I think if you replaced the o rings and re used the nylon ring they would probably be fine and not leak at all.

here is some guy asking $1600 each for w116 rears:

Good cross reference listings Mike.

Here's a listing in Europe that advertises a single for less than $200USD. Add shipping of course.. Then, they may not ship to USA.

When I look at that eBay listing I see two references to them in the plural.

I take that to mean a pair. If need be, one can ask the seller as well.

I tend to agree with lesguy's initial response, especially as they seem to be about the only current listing Google knows about.

Don't envy your situation, needing to replace one of those..

Good luck man,

MBL

Even though the photo is supposed to be NOS, I thought the thin metal rod section was supposed to be chromed to enhance lubricity and prevent wear--it looks like plain steel. Am I mistaken?

In general, I've seen it recommended to replace if the system/struts have been leaking. A few individuals have rebuilt with new o-rings, etc. Is that only possible if the struts themselves never leaked, ie they are damaged beyond repair if they've been dry?

I sent a message to the seller. We will see what he comes up with. I’m also still waiting for a member here to get back to me i missed his reply as my inbox was full. Hopefully Tuesday I may find a couple of used one’s from a parts car.
Thanks to the member who came up with the updated parts numbers for us all.

Okay so the seller replied to my inquiry yesterday and indeed that price is for a single shock.
