Re-timing Engine After New Timing Chain/Tensioners & Rocker Arm Replacement?

Completed timing chain replacement including tensioner/guide rails. Put back together and runs (after a few hiccups) great at idle. Haven't had it on road yet due to waiting on rims to be powder coated, but after searching I was not able to determine if it's recommended to put a timing light on engine due to r & r of distributor?

Also - I believe I have 1 or 2 rocker arms that need replacement. Okay to just replace rocker arm and leave original shim in place if no evidence of wear?

on your car timing is done by a sensor near the flywheel so you don't have to do that.

engines 1985 and older get their timing signal from the distributor and they have to set their timing but you don't, 1986 and newer cars the distributor is there to hold the cap and rotor that's all.

when replacing rocker arms fsm says to check clearance:

why do you want to replace them?

Thanks, good to know on timing.

I have a slight ticking noise coming from front passenger side valve cover and that leads me to believe it is likely a rocker? No issue with lubrication as I can see steady stream of oil coming out of cam oiler.

That would be a hydraulic valve compensator not the rocker arm.

Long read on a recent adventure correcting same problem:
