painting headlight wipers

Dear fellow enthusiasts, has anyone ever attempted to paint the plastic cap covering the spindle and the base of the headlight wiper? On every W126, the color of the cap has mostly disappeared whereas the wiper arm itself has largely kept its original color.
If so, what is the result when the base is repainted and does anyone have suggestions for a good color match (e.g. Revell model paint)? Did you use a primer?
Thanks,
Tempur

Yes, many times. Just key the surface well and clean well. I used different paints but no problems with any. Plastic paint worked well.
I did loads of pairs actually and sold them on to raise money for other car parts, quite a few sold on here ages ago.

Hi there,

My '91 Euro SEC has what you describe, whereas the USA vesion has totally different headlamps & wipers.. The US ones don't fade as they are metal entirely.

I have found new ones online from Europe, so here are some images for reference.

The Euro plastic caps are much darker than the arms themselves...

I bought some metallic spray that matches perfectly..

I've painted my Gen 1 Euro headlamp wipers to match the body color and it's all in the prep work.

You've also have to use different paints between the plastic and metal parts.

A bit fiddly, but the result is well worth it.

The last paint work on my SEC was the headlight wipers, I think they turned out well.

Did this last week. My experience is best when a light coat of primer is applied after sanding and prior to painting. Mike
