Coupe windows scratched.

The rear windows in my SEC look as though they are scratching on the outside when they are put down and up. Has anyone had that issue? What did you do to fix it? I'm reluctant to put them down until I can fix it.

yes my passenger window has these scratches. the rubber seals at the base of the window have some grit or sand on them. you need to clean those seals by either removal and cleaning or lower the window and clean them.

try slipping a thin sheet of plastic or cardboard between the window and seal before you lower it . use a folder file or something similar .

Thanks I did go and have a look. Can you replace that rubber trim? Mine are old and brittle one side has a crack in the middle of them.

The outside wiper gasket has some felt surface where it contacts the glass. Yes, if sand gets there, when you lower the window it will scratch the glass. I just bought new ones for my 1991, the part numbers are 1266700138 and 1266700238. I am assuming yours are the same.

First you pull up the chrome molding that is on the outside. Be careful not to bend it (it has 5 clips that hold it to the car). Then the gasket. The clips actually secure the molding and the gasket at the same time. The gasket may come out at the same time with the molding.

It happens that I have the passenger side out and tonight I plan on putting it back on the car. I will take some pictures and post them for you to see.

EDIT: i bought mine from the dealer. First was 168.00 USD and second 169.40USD (shipping and tax extra).

Gorgeous. I want to do this project!

liviu, you might want to push your rear seat belt buckles into the cutout in the rear seat cushion so they don't put a permanent dent in the seat back.
