So sorry to hear - I've also admired your car from a distance over the years. Even if you buy a completely different car, I'd suggest holding on to your current one for a while before you do anything with it (assuming you have room for it). You might find there's no place like home, and if so you'll still have it to fix or mix and match parts with another SEC.

Also, I have to admit it's hard to resist the "vulture" mentality when it comes to euro and AMG parts! To me, it seems inappropriate to ask about parts when you haven't even made a decision on it yet; I'll just say that if you do go that way, I hope you'll post something in the for sale thread.

That's sorry news, for sure and I hate to hear it.

In your original thread when you wrote about having trouble closing the deck lid, I thought, "oh, shit..."

Still, perhaps the bug that bit you the first time around will chomp on you again once you've had a little time to mull over your options.

As stated above, the second time out won't be nearly the chore it was first time. Or, that Bentley would seem to be a damn nice option once you get past the Lucas electrical system, designed and manufactured in hell.

Mike,

So sorry to hear. I'll give you a shout later.

In the meantime, you know I've been there. At the time I was pretty bummed (made worse by a combo of insensitive comments and vultures) but now I look back and I'm OK with it all. Friends stepped up and I'm back in the game. If you WANT to, then you will too. If not, I know you'll move on and find something else (eg Continental) to drive and enjoy.

That Prince of Darkness thing always made me chuckle. Unfortunately it's more than the electrical system on those cars that's a challenge, the mechanics are like no other car, everything is done in such an odd way, the parts costs bonkers. The maintenance schedule is like nothing you've ever seen.
But still, it is what it is, and the end result is a spectacular machine, so much torque.

An itch that makes no sense for me to scratch, (luckily I have the use of a Bentley which suits me better than owning one, lol!) but why not give it a go Mike. You only live once.

Still such a shame about the coupe.

I want to thank everybody for the great comments about my car and myself, and I too have been a vulture many times over, so I'm not hating....

I REALLY love my coupe. I love driving it and looking at it standing still. I love when nearly everyday someone on the road gives me thumbs up! Even here in LA, land of the exotics, I still get thumbs up from young guys and old alike.

But I'm also kinda over it and I think it's time to move on and move up. Maybe I won't get a Bentley or a Rolls. IDK? Maybe a Porsche? Maybe a Ferrari? I may stay in MBZ and get a CL55 or SL55. I move forward, I don't stay stagnant.

There are a lot of other cars that strike my fancy. A key factor is where I land my next job at. This contract is over in 5 weeks and I am interviewing all over the place. Here in the Valley, LA, Beverly Hills, DC, Dubai, UAE, Kuwait, everywhere. If I do land a job in the middle east, I'll sell both cars and all of my parts so I won't have to store them, then be there for two or three years, bank a bunch o cash, and come back and buy what I want. I'm a vet, and used to hold a TS/SCI clearance and have travelled overseas before for govt contractors, and I'm a Sr. DBA and Systems Admin, so I have good assets and can pretty much pick and choose. And I want the same for the next car.

The coupe, as fun as it is to drive, is VERY noisy and has a very rough ride. I want quiet and luxurious speed and power. And thanks, but I don't need a million suggestions. I live in the car capitol of the world and have examples of the very finest cars right here on campus! There are at least ten Bentley's at pick up time.

I don't know yet what I want. My SEL will get me by until I make my next move which I don't know what is yet.

Not likely, I've been immunized to it.

You are showing all the signs of a well balanced individual accepting a bad situation. First comes the disbelief then the anger then sadness then more anger then acceptance then moving forward. Good for you.
What a kick in the ass though. Is the frame bent?
