To put a bit of spin on the mentioned BMW and Nissan '6-speed' manual boxes, they are really 5-speed plusan added overdrive gear.
Alfa Romeo used to do that in the 60's / 70's with their 5 speed. The 4th was 1:00 and the fifth an overdrive.

The long 6th would come in very handy on the Autobahn

But what about the manual sequential aftermarket tranny's out there? Jay Leno has one in his old 600.

Would love to have one of those, or even a 6.3 300SEL or the 6.9 450SEL, but they've gone up so much in cost that it's not worth the cost for what I'd want to be a daily driver.

With regard to 5-speed vs 6-speed, the T56 is actually cheaper than the TKO500, which now makes it a bit more desirable in my eyes.

There’s a very detailed writeup on this conversion on the mercedesamgclassics site with a complete parts list. Look under “projects”.

I can't remember if I've registered there or not. I believe I did, but I'll have to see.

Interestingly, I've discovered another possible gearbox for this swap. The R154.

I'm going to get this going fairly quickly now, and I'll do my own write-up as I go along.
