Jayce's widow Tammy called me tonight because she is deactivating his phone and was calling all of his contacts and came across me. I had not read this post until just now, so when she called me I was stunned and saddened to hear of his passing.
Jayce and I had talked many times about issues he had with his car, so when I first heard her voice and not his deep booming voice, I knew this call would not go well. She informed me of his passing on August 13th, 2014.
Jayce had advanced stage 4 liver cancer that went (mostly) undetected. Here are some details that Tammy shared with me and has allowed me to share with all of you. On July 23rd (all dates 2014) Jayce made mention to Tammy about a swelling near his liver. Tammy insisted that they go to the ER, and Jayce agreed right away. They did a CAT Scan and looked at it and scheduled a specialist at a cancer center and they released him that night. They returned home and Tammy fed him, but he barely ate anything. Soup was all he could manage, and maybe an Icee pops. On July 30th they took him to the cancer center for a biopsy, and it was there that she was told that the cancer had already progressed to stage four, and when she asked how long, she was told less than a year.
On August 8th, they rushed him to the ER, and he stayed there and, four days later He then discharged himself and called Tammy to come and get him. She did not know at that time that he discharged himself. That same night, two hours later, she called an ambulance to take him back. The day of the 12th and 13th he was smiling making jokes and trying to take care of business and be strong and was fighting until the very end. Tammy went home that night (at Jayce's strong insistence) and about 11 PM had a feeling that she had to get back to see him so she called her son and they met at the hospital, and just as they walked in he had passed.
Jayce was a great guy and I will miss speaking with him. We talked about issues other than Mercedes, and I have no doubt he is badly missed by his family. He had 4 daughters and one son, and his mother is 96 and lives with Tammy.
Tammy says she is also ready to sell Jayce's car. She has asked me to broker the deal for her and I have agreed. I have instructed her on how to shoot the pictures and she will take a complete set of pics sometime in the next few days and I will post them up here:
Some preliminary details are:
1990 560 SEC
Timing chain and guides HAVE been done with paperwork to prove.
199 Black exterior with grey interior. (I do not know which grey yet)
She is going to send a pic of the VIN plate.
Car looks and runs well. Tammy takes meticulous care of this car and keeps it polished and cleaned inside and out just as Jayce would have himself. Tammy has several conditions that she wants met for the potential purchaser of his car.
1.) That the car be sold out of the state of New Mexico
2.) That the car be sold to an enthusiast who will cherish and value the car for what it is, and not just part it out.
3.) That the car be sold as is, with all of the items that Jayce had for her. The HR springs were never mounted, and there is the OEM steering wheel. They are in the trunk and will be shipped with the car.
I did not run this at EPC yet, but I can tomorrow unless someone beats me to it.
Asking price is $7,500.00 which as I have checked on fleeBay, is priced right. Tammy has a large 3 ring binder of all of the receipts for this car and she will take pics of the book, and the one receipt with the TC repairs as to me, that is the most important one.
She is open to REASONABLE offers, which you can PM to me. She has asked that no one contact her directly as this is still a tender area for her. She is going to take a full set of pictures, and I have asked her to shoot some video of the engine running and the sunroof working.
I do not know all of the options this car has on it. I know Jayce did a lot to her. Tammy wants her to go to a good home, someone like Jayce. I will know more when she and I talk tomorrow.
- Tammy asks if his account is de-activated? I sent her a link to this thread, but she could not login under his account.
