Help with sensor identification.

Good afternoon, all;

I'm hoping someone can confirm the identification of the sensor in the attached photo (and perhaps the part number?). It's on my 1990 560SEL, right below the air filter housing in front, and in the picture you can see the two vacuum lines have come off the top of the sensor. The sensor has a red plastic top with two vacuum "ports." Also, what is this particular sensor for?

I don't have access to EPC, so I can't look this up for myself. I think it's a coolant temp sensor, but since there seem to be a number of such sensors, I want to make sure I get the right thing.

FWIW, the car idles fine with the vacuum lines unattached (I only idled the car for a few minutes with the lines off; didn't drive it, and the car was not fully warmed up either).

Thanks in advance, guys!

According to my dealer it is in fact a 70c. The location looked exactly the same on the pic. Sorry for the confusion.

If unsure, there is a part # stamped into the flats.

Thanks for the input guys! I did see your thread, maxi, and discovered that what I was calling a sensor is indeed actually a thermo valve. Thanks for the education. And thanks, GreenT, for the link for the part; much appreciated.
