When I was looking to buy my car, I encountered quite a few federalized Euro Gen1 cars with front Euro bumper and US rear. Is there a particular reason for it?

The 85 Euro SEC that I just bought was federalized just like that. They replaced the rear bumper. And the headlamps, unfortunately. The front bumper was left alone.

I like that red one, good looking car. Not at all sure about the red wood though. Silver might work better to my eye what with the rest of it.

Id like to know the reason for US rear and euro front too. Two of my cars (both AMG) came like that. The ho-hum cars were/are all euro front and back. WTF? Well, I did buy a 380se euro that had a US front, but I am sure it was due to a front end collision.

I was close to biting the bullet on a Euro 500SEC from the Bay area when my friend lived there a couple years ago. It was a Canepa imported car and had a front Euro/US rear bumper too. The seller was an elder gentleman, I did ask him why is the car like that and his answer was that the front bumper could be reinforced in a way that made it pass the federalization inspection and Canepa did it "right". Apparently many others were botched, all you have to do is remove the cover and you'll be greeted by construction rebar masterpieces, or even worse. I thought it sounds like BS. If memory serves, I posted a thread about it at the time.

The piano black looks great and makes sense, the red is just ridiculous.
