GTS 5.8 Camshaft

Need help from the experts and euro 500 owners: Camshaft No. "GTS 5.8" stamped in my 500SEL Euro hot rod. What do I have? Would this be the reason why this Euro 500SEL runs harder than my old Euro 6.9 AMG?

never heard nor come across anything of that nature. Given the # of tuners running about in the 80's just about Anything is possible!

Best bet, have them Cam Dr'ed up, then you'll know what you have..

He probably meant ‘Degreed’ ?

If you have a stock cam for comparison, you could compare the two by simply pulling your valve cover and mic the lift and compare the profile and duration.
Option two, any old hot rod shop or machine shop should be able to tell by the above mentioned procedure.

Oldest trick in the book and since cam installation borders on drive way hero capability, it was a popular modification in Europe during the 80’s. Pre- smog days.

Thats funny I am changing my Euro 500SEC cam tomorrow. I was looking at 87 SEL cams on a supposed ECE motor and they didn't look a lot different, I guess the only way is to look at the No# on the back of the cam.

In trying to decipher the origins of my "GTS 5.8" cams can you check the numbers on the ECE cams? My "GTS 5.8" numbers are not in the back of the cams but they are cast between the 2d and 3d cam lobes from the front visible thru the oil cap hole.

sounds like someone spent some $$$$$ and had blanks made so as to avoid the change in base circle. Nicely Done..

buy a cheap set of 1/2 inch torx bits and drive the appropriate oversize bit in..it'll come free. 5lb sledge works well.

I will do that, have the torx already, CLK 430 requires that crazy shit. Should I tap the bolts hard to free them up?
