Drive Belt Tensioner Version 1 to Version 2 Conversion?

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the earlier version of the serpentine belt tensioner system with the later automatic version found on the 95's? In the diagram it would be going from the whole mess in the left pic to going to the simple setup on the right. I wish I had my wagon around still to compare to.

I went to install my new belt last night and the tensioner system is completely botched up.

Pretty sure you can, but you need the later fan bearing bracket I think.

I just ordered the Febi kit and the Stabilus damper from FCP. Not crazy about it, but I need to be ready to go once I get the valve cover back for this car. I wish I knew someone who had done the conversion.

No my friend.. But i have only just -well in the last 4 years replaced all these parts you posted about. And if you follow instructions from the manual its easy but time consuming .To make the job quicker you could do with the m2 auto adjuster .
