E300TE 4Matic AMG?

Think this is legit? It was imported into Spain in the 80ís and first registered then as an AMG but no AMG paperwork. Did they modify 4Matics?

Got the AMG speedo and other badges....I see nothing on the engine...should be, I think. I suppose it's possible to be authentic.

Would be a 300E with the 4Matic badge separate and over to the far right on the tailgate unless AMG just dropped it off the car...hmmm.

I just read that Affalterbach AMG cars always had the engine mods.......but Japan AMG cars often had all the mods except to the engine.

If it was a Japan AMG modded car, it will have a plate to that effect riveted somewhere.

According to the VIN check it is a German car and was ordered without badges. Itís really annoying they didnít have identifying marks on the early cars engines.

Nice wagon! My gut feeling is that it's a clone or "appearance" package, but I'm not an AMG aficionado yet. The glaring issue I see in your photos is that front spring. Almost looks like someone collapsed the spring with a torch, then stretched it out again......so strange.

Interesting....I guess it could still be real. Someone that really knows early AMG iterations should chime in. Early pre-merger AMG cars like this were usually 'Hammers'....but I guess if you didn't want the engine badges......

I think all 124 amg cars are sold in Germany. Amg was the first owner, and amg build the cars and export them to e.x. Japan.

E300TE 4Matic AMG?

Wonder where they got their cars. Here is the build sheet with order location. Not terribly far from AMG.

I doubt (but have no idea if) its Japanese though. It was imported to Spain in 1990, just three years after it was made by MB. Seems like a pretty short turnaround.

On the springs, I just assumed thatís how that got them around the axle.

Yeah looks like that is what's going on. Just seems like AMG would have come up with a more orthodox approach to clear the front driveshaft. Either way it's a very cool car!

No, AMG modified cars IN Japan....AMG Japan. Japanese customers could buy the car from Germany and have the AMG mods done in Japan.
