However I wouldn't turn down the newer V6 models as well. If you like a little more power, then V8 makes more sense. I think they only lose a few mpg to the V6 and I6. The mpg argument is really a wash. Only drawback to the W210s are that they had a crappier paint job than the w124's from what I've read. So rust might be more of an issue with them.

The only estate/wagon specific things I saw were a water leak on the passenger rear window corner (by c pillar) and self levelling suspension accumulators will eventually need R&R. My 93 300TE also had the third row seat, if I recall correctly. So that's a nice option for the kids (assuming they weigh enough to not need a booster seat).
If you live anywhere in the Salt Belt, the W210's rot away easily. Beyond that, a lot of people like them, but say they build quality is not of a 124 (if they've had both). I certainly wouldn't turn down a V6 W210 if it was rust free and the price was right.

@Real1shepherd Our 95 wagon was such a fantastic family vehicle, I couldn't agree more! There was no way we were going to buy an SUV or minivan. We did lots of trips with the kids in that car. The two younger ones had the middle row (normal back seat) and my older daughter had the rear facing seat and hatch space to herself. We through a big luggage carrier on top and away we went! That car was used as my home depot trip hauler about a gazillion times as well. The roof bars could hold a few sheets of plywood not problem. I sure do miss that thing!

Given these cars dont just fall off trees sure my first choice would be a wagon, but the e320 is going to be a huge upgrade as a family car from my current daily, and i think its a perfect fit as a first time mercedes benz owner. I'm sure ill have a whole history of other w124s,w201s, and w126s down the road!
