My 300ce cranks and is close to starting, but it wont. Suggestions?

When I first got the car, I would turn the key and it would start up without hesitation and then immediately cut off. It would always start up the second time. Well last week when I tried starting up the car, but after a few tries, it started up, but began idling rough and the ABS light was on. A few tries later and the ABS light went away and it began idling normally. I tried to start it today and it cranks and cranks like it's about to start up, but it doesn't. If I try turning the key and pushing down on the gas pedal, it will abruptly stop trying to start and shut off. The very next try, it starts, but it idles rough with the ABS light on.

I'm guessing it is the fuel pump relay and the ovp relay? I bought a fuel pump relay on ebay, but I can't find a ovp relay. All of the ovp's say they are only compatible with 93's and up.

...are the spark plugs cap and rotor in good condition and not a lot of miles on them? have you looked behind the battery compartment to look for the ovp? theres a plastic splash shield behind the battery that you need to remove.

Check the fuse in the OVP. ABS light and starting problem sound awfully familiar to me.

After that you may want to validate your fuel pressure is doing what it should (not bleeding off when the car is sitting).

This has been happening to me as of today same symptoms and everything. I confirmed on my car that my OVP has the single fuse still. Replacing your OVP i believe will cure your problems, I have one on order coming in. Is this what you are looking for?

I didn't buy that one off of autohausaz, I only posted it in reference to you not being able to find an OVP relay. I ordered my relay off of FCPeuro only because they have free shipping after 49$ compared to autohaus which is free shipping after 79$. Naturally I do plenty of research to get the best deal and also best longevity from my purchases. I paid 62.99$ for this Genuine Mercedes relay and my perception is that I didn't overpay. I learned a lot from reading @sbaert posts about this subject.

I believe that you ordered a URO relay from that Ebay link you posted, I don't think that style will last very long. URO doesn't have a good reputation for anything regarding our cars, not even rubber hoses....I think you overpaid yourself though on Autohaus it has URO OVp for 18.64$ I hope i could have helped you out for future buys.

...no he didnt over pay, you bought a cheap knock off part that should be avoided in this instance. if you can cancel the ebay purchase do it and buy a KAE ovp.

Tried to start it up again, and it seems like it's very close to starting, but while it's trying to start, there is a grind noise and then it stops.

...youre wearing out the starter. if your plugs cap and rotor arent fresh without a lot of miles/wear on them you will have starting problems. i already asked you once, are those components in good condition? if you keep grinding on that starter youe gonna chip the flywheel.
