Ok,

Little help if anyone can - I need a couple things.

1) does anyone have the timing basket part number? Dealer guys are stumped.

2) the replacement IP is shipping without the MB locking tool in it. I have tool on order from dealer ($110!!!!! Jeebus!!) but will have to make sure it's inserted correctly on new pump. Any advice on how to do that would be appreciated and rewarded.

3) Anything else I should do while the pump is out?

I'm not smart enough to make this up: MB of scottsdale just quoted me $432.05 for the basket. Plus tax.

after I went and changed my shorts, I think I'm gonna keep looking for this magical basket....

Reading a couple of other forums they have recently jumped in price horrendously. anyone know why?

yes, I had looked at that buy kept moving at the OM 603 description

I'm taking it from your suggestion that they are compatible parts?

My engine is an OM 606...thus the skepticism. (I'll caveat that with the fact that I'm kinda new to these motors as well)

The same tool was used on all the 601-606 engines. With a little work I bet you could find it even cheaper. On the peachparts forum they have a tool rental program going.

Outstanding.

In that case, thank you for the help! Sorry for my noob-ish behavior.

Your dealer is a thief.

Retail is $315, online is $252. The trademotion website has the prices reversed.

Find a used one on e-bay

The real slap in the face is that the early OM603 came with that tin piece
from the factory, you'll come across them once and a while.

Mercedes put out a service bulletin to leave them off during a repair
involving the vacuum pump or injection pump.

Something about blocking oil flow or lubrication..........

How many of those $300 to $400 parts ended up in the garbage?
