Post '93 300E Engine Wiring Harness Replacement

Hey there,
I am going to replace my Engine wiring harness. I have heard that there is also another wiring issue that involves the starter/ignition that should be replaced at the same time. Can anyone tell me the exact name of the part so I can get it at the same time as my Engine Harness. I found a thread on these forums a year or so ago that had pics showing how to do the replacement. Supposedly it is supposed to be one of the easiest jobs to do on the 300E. Any help at locating the above mentioned part or the thread that shows the pics for DIY would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time....

It's called the starter/alternator harness, or the lower engine harness, lots of names. It doesn't necessarily have to be replaced at the same time - it's a different part and a completely different job. It might actually be a more difficult job than the upper engine harness, but the harness isn't nearly as expensive, and it isn't nearly as critical a part because the actual starter and alternator wires are not the ones that fail.

It's on the EPC under starter harness. I've only found it at dealers. Price was about 175 retail. Your mechanic probably can buy it for about 130.
My engine harness was replaced on my 95 but my starter harness is severely cracked so is getting a new one is well. There are three wires over the oil filter that were the tell tail it was bad.
If I read the schematic the three wires are starting, oil pressure and oil level(maybe temp).

So you area saying that the starter harness consists of those 3 wires that run past the oil filter? I seem to have frayed wires at the same point. I have to be careful when doing filter changes as to not aggravate the problem. My main harness was replace by the PO...

Yes, that is part of it.

I'll try to take a photo of my part later.

Hey that'd be great & good documentation for the site, as I'd assume that many people face this issue whether they know it or not. I often see in for sale ads, mention of the main harness being replaced, but never the starter wiring harness...
