w123 Door Striker

I replaced the striker but I can't find any procedure to make the adjustment. It can't be just trial and error, does anyone know?

On my coupe, I put some masking tape over the hole, then see where the point makes a dent.

Using masking tape is a good tip! If anyone else is about to replace their Door Lock Strikers 123 720 0104 and 123 720 0204, we have them available: https://www.autohausaz.com/catalog/c...ker?s=d&page=1

I masked all around the old strike before removing it. Put the new one on using the tape as a guide.

Tighten up the bolts hand tight; loose enough so that the strike can move ever so slightly when the door is closed gently. It should settle in a good spot for perfect closing. Fully tighten the bolts when you get it to where you want it.

My tip: I found a way of marking the striker where it enters the hole:

Gently apply a light color masking tape over the hole, use a magic marker and go over the striker point, then VERY gently close the door until you feel it barely touching - but not breaking the tape. It will leave a dot.

Now you have an idea where the striker goes in, so you can adjust up/down left/right accordingly
But, I do carefully outline the unit top and side before hand. Then, the fine tuning begins. You might shut the door 20 or 30 times! Did I mention that the depth is important! yeah, thus the reason for shims.

Gently secure the bolts to loosen again....and again..until Voila it is perfect!.

That is a good idea, I'll have to try it with my '84 soon as the passenger door doesn't close nearly as nice as the driver's side. Perhaps lipstick would work better than a marker? I'll give it a shot soon
