I have one if you need the correct shroud used with the M110.

You got any pictures?

I cannot believe I did not notice it was missing before now, and there seems to be sufficient airflow over the engine at idle. Would there have been any functional difference without the shroud?

Yes, better cooling with a shroud. You should ditch that metal fan blade and get the plastic fan blade. Ask VON if he has the clips if you buy his.

If you’re going to complete correct 280E, what is your redline on tach, or do you just have a big ol’ clock?

Also those worm gear clamps on radiator hoses are going to cause you problems down the road.

Since I’m not seeing an EGR on your exhaust manifold, you may just have a real Euro M110, which is a good thing. US spec M110 are dogs.

Indeed, this car is pure-born European. The Euro engine was one of the reasons I decided to put work into the rest of the car, who knows where it would be if it was still a 200.

I like the fact that my cooling fan is not plastic, it is one of those "respect for German cars" things that I have. What benefits would a plastic fan have versus the fan it has?

My instrument cluster is, unfortunately, original to the 200. Thus, it has no tach. I assumed it was an option for the car. Is there a way to fit this car with a tach, or is it futile to think about it further?

Personally, I take engine cooling pretty "seriously", if I could say that about anything. I would assume that I should replace my thermostat, as my temp needle has never moved past the first line. I intend to handle the radiator hoses when I flush my radiator, as well as try to bend it back into shape. I have never personally had any problems with screw clamps, but I will go with the advice of those wiser than me.

How would I go about buying a fan shroud from this forum? I gotta start somewhere, and there is a LOT I do not know yet.

The 6-cylinder 280 Tachometer with a 6500RPM is pretty rare to find. Was optional and there were 3 variations of it depending on the year. Yours being a 1981, you would have the 2nd series version. Should have a metal chrome button in the center and the time clock would have lines every 5 minutes. You can add a tachometer, you'll have to just run a lead to the ignition coil to power it up.

As for the fuel tank, I believe the sedans had larger tanks than wagons. I do know that the 190E (W201's) came with an optional larger tank but I'm not sure there was a larger tank available for sedans. Either way, the tank size would not be something specific to the 280.

A 280E did have a specific speedometer unit. 220km/h or 140mph version that was only found on the 280's. If you want a 280E speedometer, then thats what I would look for. Remember, that these speedometers are mechanical and run off the differential gearing. A 280 would have a 3.58 geared differential.

VON, not sure if you did not get my message on FB, but I am looking for a pulley off of a M110 to fit A/C. I'm planning on retrofitting A/C in my non-AC model and wanted to see if you have any parts available off of the 280 motor you pulled out.

You're lucky that both 280 cars you had came with them. Pretty rare an unusual.

Nice silver coupé.

If I can manage to get my hands on a 280E-specific tach, I will definitely install it. Does it get its "information" from the coil pack as well, or does it have some kind of cable like the speedo? The speedometer that is installed in the car right now only goes up to 115, so I will look out for that as well. I am too lazy to check EBay, so if anyone has a 280E tach or speedometer from a nonfunctional jalopy, all the better for me!

The cluster continuity is on my list of things to fix, but the top priority is making the car structurally sound again. That means a LOT of welding. Because I don't have a garage, I haven't really had the opportunity to tackle the welding between the freezing rainfalls and the tornadoes that come through this area. Plus, I do not have a welder yet. I tell you people what, it is hard working on this project and being only sixteen years old (lower skill, higher stupidity). I have learned my lesson about free cars. However, I do intend to finish this car. And please, let me know if I "ramble" on and on too much.

Below is how the cluster looked when I got it. Don't mind the duct tape residue and the silver disc, both have been remedied. In the second picture, doesn't the 'E' stand out a bit more than the other characters on the trunk badge?
