Steelies

Simply put, I can't stand the bundt rims. I'm looking to pick up some steel ones so I can use my hubcaps, but was stunned at the lack of availability of the original steelies. Has anyone else who runs the hubcaps found another solution to buying the rare and quite expensive original steel rims?

Thanks in advance and sorry about my relative ignorance on the subject.

Go to a junkyard and see if you can find a 240D. Most of them came with hubcaps.

Unfortunately, I think that people have retrofitted bundts as an upgrade and perhaps most of the steel wheels and hubcaps have ended up recycled.

They are out there but they are also getting expensive. Its been about 5-6 years but I bought a set of 4 of the light alloy version of the wheels for $250. They are much lighter than the actual steel wheels and are interchangeable with the steel version. Keep an eye out on ebay and also on the Mercedes Club of America for sale section.

I feel these are both good suggestions, I will keep an eye out on both places.

I didn’t realize they were coveted. I actually the steel
W/hubcaps and the 80’s era alloys too.

I did something like this some time ago. Correct steel wheels are difficult to source. 240D's came on 14x 5.5" rims and 300D's came one 14x6's. Other more upscale models around the same time had 14 x 6.5". I ended up with a few different 14x6" rims from various contemporary MB's. No issues.

Good Luck with your search.
