So I'm going to the local yards in the next couple weeks to see if I can find a deal on an om606. I've gotten many jy gassers but never a diesel. I know to avoid nice clean cars, rolled cars, free spinning or seized cranks. I don't know any specific things to check on diesels. Does anyone have any advice for checking an om606 when there's no oil or battery present? Thank you

Pictures would be very appreciated. I've Google image searched a lot but seeing them together is what I need.

I'll look up the OM605 and consider it. Thank you for your advice.

I wouldn't go so far as enlarged IP elements until much further down the road but as I said I'd prefer to retain the ecm and electric controlled 606 IP.
okay, there is some guys that has actually managed to run the ECM etc, manually without dealing with the stock electronics on superturbodiesel.com,
althout it is not what i would do. but worth looking into perhaps..

Just adding this, and this might be said already, but you probably wouldnt have to smog it. You could also just not say anything to the government about the swap. I mean, its not like you're putting a 454 Chevy or anything.

I can't find one in any reasonable distance for less than $2500. Seems like this won't be practical for me till turbo om606's - 97's and up - show up in my junkyards unless I can find a good used one in my price range elsewhere.

$2500 seems like a ridiculous price to me. I budgeted $1500 for complete engine/turbo/IP assembly with ecm, harness and relays etc.

yeah, they do cost, i know guys here in sweden that travel 600 miles, and pay 3000$ just for an om606turbo engine+gearbox with low miles.

Seing that the americans seems to adapt the IP-modification- superturbodiesel mentality, and these cars being more rare over the pond to start (correct me if i am wrong), i am not to surpriced they cost some money :P

You're not wrong at all but I still think $2500 is rape. I'll wait till I find one more reasonably priced and till then move forward with my om617.
