Hello! New rookie here..

Hi all, new here! I've recently inherited a 1965 220b (w108?) and am getting ready to work on getting it running. The first thing will be the ignition, as no keys are to be found. I'm no stranger to a wrench, but have never worked on Mercedes. Wish me luck?

Enjoy the new project! Sure it's not a W111? https://www.autohausaz.com/catalog/c...65/1342695-220

I believe you're right. I've been reviewing pics of both and mine has the "short fins". Where can I find the actual chassis code?

Chassis number will be on a stamped plate on the radiator support. Open the hood and look straight down. It will be painted the same color as the body, but will have a bunch of numbers stamped into it.

And yes, this is a W111.

Don't panic on the keys. With the VIN number the dealer can order a set cut to match the car. You'll need to have the title or registration in hand when you go to the dealer as they need proof of ownership to order keys. I presume there's a dealer in Springfield.

Literally NO rust, a few little dings here and there. The interior is dirty, dash cracked, missing one signal bullet lens. I haven't tried to turn the engine yet. It was last driven in the early '90s. The last I knew, he parked it because of carb issues. No problem, carbs are fun. I actually used to drive it when I was working in the St. Louis area for the good friend that I inherited it from. He left me several projects, this will be the first that I work on..
