Ford 9" rear-end fit 250s

Hello all! I am wanting to install a Ford 9" rear-end for my 1966 250s. Has anyone installed one? Wanting to put 20" rear tires and trying to figure out how long my axel needs to be. I understand that wheel tubs will have to be modified. Thanks!!

The question suggested the answers. Sort of like asking if you should take a dump on a dinner table before the salad course, or, after dessert.

Ummm no. The question did NOT suggest the answers. It more suggested a "no, I've never" (and that likely not needing to be explicitly stated) or "yes, and here's some advice <and then the advice>." It certainly didn't suggest someone make a low-brow comment about dumps at dinner. I scratch my head at why elitists on this forum continually make it a point to poo poo (pun intended) someone's out-of box ideas or questions.

Jmann3k, there's no easy bolt-in for the Ford 9". If it's a matter of whether the native rear end will take an upgrade in horse power, it will (I've transplanted a Ford 289 into a 250S, and to no adverse effects at the rear end). If you continue to have concerns, I'd suggest using a rear end out of a 280se/sel or 300sel with a 3.5, 4.5 or 6.3. They're a direct bolt-in. If it's a matter of wanting wider tires, you'll probably find it easier to use adapters that fit the bolt pattern (it's a common one).

If you DO want to use the Ford rear end, you'll need to either construct your own adapters, or do appropriate surgery to your car to make it work. There's an old adage amongst 'rodders - "anything will fit in anything. It's just a matter of how" (and a matter of $$, time, a respectable tool collection, etc).

If you go down this path, keep a record of what you did and how - someone else may be facing the same question, and you'd be blazing trails. And post pics - we non elitists love pics.

So I salvaged the rear end of a W109 4.5 in order to possibly use it in my W112 lang. I'm probably never going to do that. Will a W109 rear end bolt into a W108 ??? Or are the mounts for the air suspension going to goof everything up....?

I think the answer lies on hot rod forums, not MB ones.

plenty of links that show how to do.
